Biography
Peter Midgley was born in Berlin, Germany as Fleischmann,adopting the name Midgley after the family who took him to Manchester. Attended the Berlin Art School before arriving in England for a brief interment on the Isle of Man. He was released into a care of two painters who found him a place at the Beckenham School of Art in 1947-51. Then studied at the Royal College of Art in 1951-53. Won a travelling scholarship to Rome in 1953-54.
Exhibited regularly with the Redfern Gallery in the 1950s and 60s. Showed with London Group, Royal Academy, Victoria and Albert Museum, Camden Arts Centre and others. Retrospective exhibition of his work was held in Berlin in 1978. Memorial Show at Woodlands Art Gallery in 1992.
