Biography

Colin Wyatt was born in London into an architect family. Studied at Cambridge Modern Languages and became a captain of the Cambridge ski club. Studied art at Academic Decluse in Paris in 1926-28, Slade School of Art in 1930-1931, County Council Central School of Art and Grovesnor School of Modern Art. Among his tutors were the Scottish artist Ian McNab and Claude Flight. Exhibited a number of times at the Alpine Club, Storran Gallery in 1931, Connell Galleries and Contemporary Art Society in Sydney, Australia. Two of his works were exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1928. Had two one man shows in Sydney. Also exhibited at Coste House, Calgary, Canada. During the World War II an officer in the Royal Australian Air Force. Wyatt was a keen skier, three times became Champion of Great Britain in ski jumping. Was also a well known international mountaineer, author of a number of books, a travelogue filmmaker and lecturer. Died in a plane crash in a remote part of Guatemala in an attempt to investigate a new archeological site.
