William Crosbie was born in Hankow, China of Scottish parents. Family stayed in China until 1926. Studied at the Glasgow School of Art in 1932-5. Travelling scholarship took him to Paris, where he studied history of art in Sorbonne and worked under Fernand Leger. Crosbie showed regularly in mixed Scottish exhibitions, having many solo shows. Retrospective exhibition at Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh in 1980. Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art and Scottish Arts Council hold examples of his work.
