Biography

Patrick William Adam was born in Edinburgh. Studied at the RSA School under George Paul Chalmers and William MacTaggart. In 1872 at the age of 18 he first exhibited at the RSA, eventually showing there 164 pictures. Elected RSA in 1894. Travelled abroad extensively and worked in Rome, Venice and Russia. Prominent member of Society of Eight in Edinburgh. Exhibited at the RA (12 works) between 1878 and 1896 and Glasgow Institute. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Scotland, Aberdeen Art Gallery and City of Edinburgh collection. Lived in North Berwick.
