Biography

Morris Kestelman was born in London, where he settled. Studied at Central School of Art in 1922-25 with Bernard Meninsky, then at Royal College of Art in 1926-29, where he developed an interested in theatre design. Kestleman did murals for Victoria and Albert Museum exhibition in 1946 and was included in Mural Art To-Day there in 1960. From 1951-71 Kestleman was Central School's Head of Fine Art. Elected LG and Senior RA in 1996. Had a solo show at Upper Grosvenor Gallery in 1961, later ones included Sally Hunter Fine Art in 1987 and Boundary Gallery from 1989. In 1983 Kestelman won an Abbey Major Award in Painting Prize. Arts Council, Contemporary Art Society and Victoria & Albert Museum hold his work. Memorial shows at Boundary and the Friends'Room at RA were held both in 2001.
