Biography
Lionel Ellis was born in Plymouth, Devon. Studied at Plymouth School of Art in 1918-22, Royal College of Art in 1922-24, where he obtained a travelling scholarship, Atelier Colarossi in Paris and in Italy. Exhibited at Royal Academy, National Society of Painters, New English Arts Club and extensively at Redfern Gallery. Victoria & Albert Museum, British Museum and several provincial galleries, including Plymouth hold his work. Lectured on painting at Wimbledon School of Art in 1937-68.
