Biography

John Kingsley Cook was born in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire. Studied at the Royal Academy Schools under Thomas Mannington and Walter Westley Russell, gaining Gold Medal and Travelling Scholarship, then at Central School of Arts and Crafts. Became the head of the design school at Edinburgh College of Art. Showed his work in mixed shows at RA Summer Exhibitions, RSA and elsewhere. Solo exhibitions included Demarco Gallery and Open Eye Gallery. In 1995 there was a memorial show at Edinburgh College of Art. His work is represented in a number of collections, including London's Guildhall Library, the Library of Congress in Washington and Bristol Museum and Art Gallery.
