Biography

Born in Glasgow. Brother of Maggie Hamilton and uncle of Viola Paterson. Studied in Paris in the studios of Dagnan Bouveret and Aime Morot. Enjoyed painting fishing villages and fiels of Berwickshire. Exhibited on the continent as frequently as in the UK. Elected RSA in 1922. Awarded a gold medal at Munich Exhibition in 1897. Exhibited at the Royal Academy, Royal Scottish Academy and Glasgow Institute. His work is represented in the Glasgow Art Gallery, Perth Art Gallery, City of Edinburgh Collection, Lillie Art Gallery and Weimar Art Gallery in Germany.
