Jacques André Duffour was a well-known painter and
graphic artist in Paris, working in the mid to late 20th century,
from his studio in the Rue du Temple situated in the 3rd arrondissement
of Paris. He is noted for his interiors, still lifes and portraits in
particular. Duffour studied under the important French artist Jean Souverbie
(1891-1981), a member of the Parisian avant-garde, and was later associated
with the painter Paul Guimarand (1926-2007).
He exhibited his work regularly at the Salon des Indépendants in Paris
and was also known for his eye-catching posters, including those
for exhibitions held at The Grand Palais des Champs-Élysées, Paris.
Duffour’s work was influenced by Souverbie and by Georges Braque.
After his death the contents of his atelier (his studio) were sold at the
prestigious Hôtel Drouot auction rooms in central Paris.
