Biography
Hubert Lindsay Wellington was born in Gloucester. Studied at the School of Art there in 1895-1898, then at Birmingham School of Art in 1898-99 and the Slade School of Fine Art in 1899-1900. Held his first one man show in Agnew's in 1963. Lectured at the National Gallery in 1919-22, was teaching 10 years at the Royal College of Art, London, became the principal of the Edinburgh College of Art 1932-42, then a lecturer at the Slade in 1947-9. Also exhibited at New English Arts Club, Royal Academy, London Group and other important galleries. There was an exhibition of his landscapes at the Abbott and Holder in 1996. Tate Gallery holds one of his many early Cotswold scenes and a work is held by Ashmolean Museum in Oxford. His work is represented in the Government Art Collection, Southampton City Art Gallery, Museum of Gloucester, Arts Council, Southbank and other institutions.
