Biography
Henryk Gotlib was born in Cracow, Poland. Studied at the Academy of Fine Art, Cracow, later in Munich, Amsterdam and Paris. Had his first solo show in Warsaw in 1918, a year later returned to Cracow where he became leader of advanced Formist movement. Early in the 1920s Gotlib had shows in Berlin and Amsterdam, then during the rest of the decade he lived mainly in France. Travelled to England before the World War II, decided to settle here and began to exhibit his work in one man shows with Roland, Browse and Delbanco in the 1940s. Later shows were held with O'Hana and Crane Kalman Galleries. Exhibitions were held at the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in 1970; another at Morley Gallery in 1971, Boundary Gallery in 1988 and Connaught Brown in 1996.
