Biography

Helen Hale was born in Hertfordshire in 1936 and was educated at St. George’s School Harpenden. From 1955 to 1970 she studied part time in London at St. Martin’s School of Art and the Sir John Cass School of Art. In 1974 she was elected a member of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and an honorary archivist of the Royal Institute of Oil Painters in 2002. She has exhibited her work at the Royal Scottish Academy; the Royal West of England Academy; the Free Society of Painters and Sculptors and has had many one man shows. Helen is a member of the National Society of Painters, Sculptures and Printmakers, the Society of Women Artists and the Free Painters and Sculptors. She married Sydney Horne Shepherd who was a Scottish artist, he died in 1993. Helen has lived in West Sussex for over twenty years.
