Biography
Edward Le Bas was born in London. Studied art briefly in Paris, then from 1924 at the Royal College of Art. Held first solo show at the Lefevre Gallery in 1936. Exhibited at the RA, LG, Redfern and Goupil Galleries, Arthur Tooth and Son and NEAC. Elected RA in 1953.In 1997 Michael Parkin Gallery held a show Edward Le Bas - Painter and Collector.
In The Art of Bloomsbury the author Richard Shone mentions that Duncan Grant was a frequent visitor at 53 Bedford Square, the house of Edward Le Bas, and often worked there. Vanessa Bell, Duncan Grant and Le Bas frequently took painting trips to the continent.
