Biography
Bernard Adeney was born in London. Began his art training in St. John's Wood when only nine years old, then studied at the Royal Academy Schools in 1892-97, Academie Julian in Paris in 1897, Slade School of Fine Art in 1912 and Central School of Arts and Crafts for a year. Took part in the Second Post-Impressionist Exhibition in 1912, becoming a founder-member of London Group the following year. During World War I served in the Tank Corps painting camouflage, then became an official war artist. Married to the artist Noel Adeney. Founder member of London Artists' Association in 1925. From 1903 taught at the Central School where was head of the textile school in 1930-47. Also taught at Putney School of Art and Blackheath School of Art. His work is held by the Tate Gallery, Imperial War Museum and provincial galleries. Memorial exhibition took place at Woodlands Art Gallery in Blackheath 1979.
