Biography

Allan Walton was born in Cheadle Hulme, Cheshire. Abandoned studies in an architect's office to learn to paint under Stanhope Forbes in Cornwall, then studied at Slade School of Fine Art in 1913-16 and in Paris at L'Academie de la Grande Chaumiere. After World War I studied with Walter Sickert at Westminster School of Art in London, began to exhibit. Held his first one man show at Beaux Arts Gallery in 1928, another followed at Arthur Tooth and Son in 1933. Mixed shows included London Group, Leicester Galleries and Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool. From 1943-45 Walton was director of Glasgow School of Art. Exhibited at Sally Hunter Fine Arts in a number of exhibitions. Arts Council and Manchester City Art Gallery hold examples of his work.(see Art UK)
