Sir William MacTaggart was born in Loanhead, near Edinburgh. In 1918 began to study at the Edinburgh College of Art, later studied in France and Italy. First exhibited at the RSA in 1921. Founder member of 1922 Group. In 1924 MacTaggart had a one man show in Cannes. Exhibited at the Connels and T&R Annan and Sons, Glasgow, Aitken Dott, Edinburgh and Stone Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne. Knighted in 1962. Tate Gallery, Arts Council of Great Britain, Scottish Arts Council and Scottish Royal Academy and other British and overseas collections hold his work. |
