| Born in Rothesay, Isle of Bute. Self taught. In 1890 the family moved to California. Began to work with paint after being inscpired by visit to Paris and Scotland in 1904-5. In 1916 held his first solo exhibition at Alex Reid's Gallery, La Societe des Beaux Arts. Hunter was joined by Fergusson, Cadell and Peploe at exhibition in Paris Les Peintres de l'Ecosse Moderne in 1924. Exhibited at the RSA and GI. His work is represented in the National Gallery of Scotland, Dundee Art Gallery, a number of French Museums, Sydney Art Gallery and Victoria Art Gallery. |
