| Born in Glasgow. Studied at Glasgow School of Art in the early 1880's, in 1885 joined the Royal Institution in Edinburgh. Was made a member of RSA in 1918, RA in 1920. In 1924 he was knighted and made the King's Painter in Scotland in 1933. Exhibited at RA, RSA, GI and others. His work is represented in a number of collections, National Gallery of Scotland, Tate Gallery, City of Edinburgh Art collection, National Gallery of Canada and National Gallery of New Zealand to name a few. |
