Biography
Alicia Boyle was born in Bangkok, Thailand and spent her earlier years in Limavady, county Londonderry, then in London, where she studied at the Clapham School of Art for four years. Won a scholarship to Byam Shaw School of Drawing and Painting under Enerst Jackson. As a student had first picture accepted to Royal Academy in 1932, in 1934 gained a commission for a mural of St. James's Park for the nurses' home of Great Ormond Street Hospital. Showed with Leicester and Leger Galleries in 1949, 1951 and 1953. In 1971 settled in Dublin and began to show her work at CEMA in Belfast and Waddington Gallery, Dublin. Held many solo shows, at Peter Jones Gallery from 1945 and Crawford Municipal Art Gallery in Cork in 1988. Her work is represented in the collection of Bank of Ireland and Irish Arts Council, Collection of Original Works for Children in Cambridgeshire, Northampton Museums & Art Gallery, Herbert Art Gallery & Museum, Derbyshire & Derby School Library Service (see BBC Your Paintings)
