Biography

Alastair Flattely was born in Inverness. Studied at the Edinburgh College of Art in 1949-1950. Obtained an Andrew Grant Travelling Scholarship to Spain in 1950-51 and Fellowship in Painting in 1953-55. Flattely won a Charles Jervase Prize in 1950 and Stewart Prize in 1952 at the Royal Scottish Academy. Lectured at the Edinburgh College of Art, Gray's School of Art in Aberdeen and was principal at Gloucester College of Art, Cheltenham in 1960-1972. Exhibited at Wildenstein, Roland Browse & Delbanco, Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art. City of Aberdeen, Dundee, Glasgow, Hull and Cheltenham hold examples of his work as well as Royal Scottish Academy and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh.
