Biography

Dorothy King was born and lived in London. Studied at the Hornsey School of Art under JCMoody, then briefly at the Slade School of Fine Art with Randolph Schwabe. Took up painting professionally after the war. In 1947 elected RBA. In 1959 was a temporary keeper of its Galleries in Suffolk Street, then from 1961-1974 was a keeper of the South London Art Gallery. Showed her work at the Royal Academy, New English Arts Club and elsewhere. Her work is represented in the Metropolitan Museum of Modern Art in New York. Memorial Show was held in the Mall Galleries in 1992.
