Biography

Roy Ray was born in Feltham, Middlesex. Self-taught artist, producing depictions of landscape in rich, earthy colours as seen from the air. Moved to Cornwall in 1974 and was a principal of St.Ives School of Painting from 1977 for many years. Ray was a member of Newly Society of Artists, Penwith Society of Arts and a founder member of Porthmeor Printmakers. Regularly lectured at Tate Gallery on aspects of paitning in St. Ives and was a part author of 'Art about St.Ives' published in 1987. Held his first solo show at Salthouse Gallery, St.Ives in 1981, later ones at St. Ives Pottery Gallery in 1994 and Penhaven Gallery in St.Ives in 2002 and 2005. St.Thomas' Hospital, Famouth School and Allied Irish Bank hold examples.
