Robert Buhler was born 1916 in London of Swiss parentage. Studied at the Kunstgewerbe Schule, Zürich, 1933, at Basel, at the St Martin's School of Art 1934–6, and at the R.C.A. 1936.
Exhibited at the Leger Galleries with Pitchforth and Dunlop 1942; at the Leicester Galleries 1945 (with Lawrence Gowing) and 1950; at Agnew's with Roger de Grey and Carel Weight 1959. Exhibited with the N.E.A.C. from 1945; member 1946–51; at the R.A. from 1946, A.R.A. 1947, R.A. 1956; member of the London Group 1950–1. Taught at Chelsea and the Central School 1945–8 and at the R.C.A. from 1948
Three of his works were purchased under the terms of Chantrey Bequest and a number are in collections in the provinces and abroad.
