John Campbell Mitchell was born in Campbeltown, Argyll. Studied at the Edinburgh College of Art and then in Paris under Benjamin Constant. Exhibited at the Royal Scottish Academy from 1886. Elected RSA in 1918. Exhibited at the RA, RSA and Glasgow Institute. His work is represented in Aberdeen Art Gallery, Glasgow Art Gallery and City of Edinburgh Collection and Manchester Art Gallery.
