Biography

Muirhead Bone was born in Glasgow. Attended art classes at Glasgow School of Art under Archibald Kay. Moved to London in 1901 and soon began exhibiting at the RA and NEAC. Had his first solo show at the Carfax Gallery in 1903, a year later becoming the founding member of the Society of Twelve. Knighted 1937. Memorial exhibitions in Manchester and the Arts Council in 1955. His work is represented in a number of important private and public art collections, including the Imperial War Museum, Tate Gallery, Glasgow City Art Gallery and City of Edinburgh Council.
