Biography
Robert Morson Hughes 

 
Robert Morson Hughes was born in Knole, Kent, Hughes studied at Lambeth School of Art and South London Technical Art School. In 1909 he came to Newlyn to study with Stanhope Forbes and there met his wife to be, Eleanor Waymouth. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1910 to 1938.

Hughes was friendly with many of the second generation artists, Laura and Harold Knight, Munnings and Lamorna Birch to name but a few. Robert and Eleanor Hughes moved to Lamorna c.1910 and lived at ‘Chyangweal’ from 1911.
Exhibited with the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours, the New English Art Club, Manchester City Art Gallery, the Walker Art Gallery Liverpool, the International Society, Goupil Gallery, the Grosvenor Gallery, the Alpine Club Gallery and at the Royal Academy.
His work is represented in the collection of the Cornwall Council, Newlyn Art Gallery, Penlee House Art Gallery and Museum.
