Biography
James Bateman was born in Kendal, Westmorland. Studied at the Slade School of Fine Art in 1919-21. Exhibited at the RA from 1925, elected RA in 1942. Also showed at Cooling Galleries, Fine Art Society, NEAC, RSA and extensively abroad. His work is represented in many British provincial and Common galleries, including British Museum and Tate Gallery.
