James McIntosh Patrick was born in Dundee, Angus. At Glasgow School of Art from 1924 he was very successful, winning many prizes and gaining a post-diploma scholarship. From 1928 showed at the RA and from 1934 at Fine Art Society. Elected RSA in 1957. Solo shows were held at Dundee City Art Gallery in 1967 and at Dundee, Abberdeen and Liverpool in 1987. Tate Gallery holds examples of his work.
