Biography

Rodrigo Moynihan was born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands. Spent part of his childhood and youth in England, America and Italy, where he began to study art in Rome, later attending the Accademia Rosso in Florence. From 1928-31 was at the Slade School of Fine Art. Exhibited with London Group from 1930, between 1933-36 being a leading member of the Objective Abstractions Group with Graham Bell and Geoffrey Tibble. In the late 1930's was associated with the Euston Road School. Elected RA in 1954. Held his first solo show at Redfern Gallery in 1940, after which many followed in London, New York and elsewhere. Retrospective exhibition held at Royal Academy in 1978. The Tate Gallery, Arts Council, Royal Academy, British Council and Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York hold examples of his work.
