| Born in Mayonyo, Burma. Arrived to Britain as a small boy. Studied at Bryanston School and was taught in Newlyn by Stanhope Forbes in 1938, and the Slade School of Fine Art in 1939. During the World War II, was in the RAF and was a prisoner of war in Germany. Returned to study to Slade in 1945-47. In 1948 held a solo show at Musee de Carcassonne. Held his first solo show in Britain at the Redfern Gallery in 1953. Had numerous group show appearances in Britain and abroad and regular solo exhibitions, including many at Redfern Gallery, two retrospectives at the City Art Gallery in Bristol in 1971 and at Graves Art Gallery, Sheffield in 1972. His work is held by many public collections, including Arts Council, Tate Gallery, Victoria & Albert Museum and Whitworth Art Gallery, Manchester. |
