Cedric Morris was born in Skety, Swansea. In 1921 studied in Paris at the Academies Moderne, Suedoise and La Grande Chaumiere and Atelier Colarossi, his teachers including Andre Lhote, Othon Friesz and Fernard Leger. During the 1920's travelled extensively in Europe and North Africa and in 1927 returned to Britain. Elected to LG and 7&5 Society. In 1937 opened the East Anglian School of Painting and Drawing near Hadleigh, where he also lived and worked. Had many one man shows and in 1984 was commemorated in a major exhibition at Tate Gallery. |
